Las Plagas
Information
The parasites that control the villagers, and in turn are controlled by Los Iluminados, are referred to as Las Plagas, which means "the plagues." Las Plagas are extremely light-sensitive and do not appear during daylight hours. Once darkness settles, Las Plagas begin revealing themselves. When a Plaga emerges from the neck of a decapitated human, additional ammunition and greater accuracy is required to put the enemy down.
Once a Plaga emerges from a person's neck, damage to any other part of the body is reduced to 1/3rd normal. The Plaga itself is the only weak spot.
Plagas take several forms, gradually becoming stronger and more deadly. The first type of Plaga encountered consists of a gooey and bubbly central mass from which several long tentacles sprout. Some tentacles serve merely as whips, causing staggering and minor damage. One tentacle in particular ends in a razor-sharp bone used to slash victims.
The second form encountered is seen immediately after entering the Castle. Las Plagas emerging from many of the cultists in the Castle take the form of centipede-like monsters similar to the ones that emerge from El Gigante. While this creature can attack only at close range, a successful attack proves instantly fatal. This form is even stronger than the tentacle form.
The third form is the largest. Somewhat spider-like, this form is capable of the same fatal decapitation attack. It can also spray a heavily damaging acid from a medium range. When this form of a Plaga's host body is finally eliminated, it detaches itself from the body.
